St. Mary's City, Md. - Senior forward Ali Femi (Easton, Md./Easton) helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Tournament as Femi recorded her second career hat trick in a 7-0 shutout victory over Hood College Saturday afternoon.

In the CAC Quarterfinals on October 28, the Seahawks (9-4, 5-1 CAC) will host seventh-seeded Hood (3-11, 0-6 CAC) at a time to be determined.

The Hawk scoring began just over eight minutes into the game when sophomore midfielder Amanda Bramble (Easton, Md./Easton) dropped a pass down to Femi who then drilled it home for her first goal of the day.  Senior midfielder Amy Skrickus (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made it 2-0 at 10:02 when Skrickus put back a rebound for her fourth tally of the season.

Femi registered back-to-back goals for a 4-0 SMCM lead as she converted a pass from senior forward Mary Lyle Jeanes (Orange, Va./Orange County) at 14:59 and then notched an unassisted goal at 23:23.  A give-and-go by freshmen Jackie Ward (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Kristen Deegan (Highland, Md./Hammond) put the Seahawks up 5-0 at halftime.

In the second half, sophomore midfielder Christy Scaljon (Dundalk, Md./Patapsco) netted her first career goal at 48:52 and then freshman forward Ryan O'Malley (Crownsville, Md./The Severn School) wrapped up the scoring at 54:35 as O'Malley deflected freshman forward Katie Cox's (Frederick, Md./Linganore) pass.

St. Mary's out-shot the Blazers, 34-1, while posting a 17-0 advantage in penalty corners.

The Seahawks will return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's plays host to Randolph-Macon College in its final regular-season game of 2007 at 1:00.
