St. Mary's City, Md. - Senior forward
Ali Femi (Easton, Md./Easton) helped the St.
Mary's College of Maryland field hockey secure the No. 2 seed in
the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Tournament as
Femi recorded her second career hat trick in a 7-0 shutout victory
over Hood College Saturday afternoon.
In the CAC Quarterfinals on October 28, the Seahawks (9-4, 5-1
CAC) will host seventh-seeded Hood (3-11, 0-6 CAC) at a time to be
determined.
The Hawk scoring began just over eight minutes into the game
when sophomore midfielder Amanda Bramble (Easton,
Md./Easton) dropped a pass down to Femi who then drilled it home
for her first goal of the day. Senior midfielder Amy
Skrickus (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made it 2-0 at 10:02 when
Skrickus put back a rebound for her fourth tally of the season.
Femi registered back-to-back goals for a 4-0 SMCM lead as she
converted a pass from senior forward Mary Lyle
Jeanes (Orange, Va./Orange County) at 14:59 and then
notched an unassisted goal at 23:23. A give-and-go by
freshmen Jackie Ward (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis)
and Kristen Deegan (Highland, Md./Hammond) put the
Seahawks up 5-0 at halftime.
In the second half, sophomore midfielder Christy
Scaljon (Dundalk, Md./Patapsco) netted her first career
goal at 48:52 and then freshman forward Ryan
O'Malley (Crownsville, Md./The Severn School) wrapped up
the scoring at 54:35 as O'Malley deflected freshman forward
Katie Cox's (Frederick, Md./Linganore) pass.
St. Mary's out-shot the Blazers, 34-1, while posting a 17-0
advantage in penalty corners.
Emily Richards (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook)
and Emma Lauhoff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) split time in
goal with Richards making one save as the Hawks picked up their
fifth shutout of the season.
The Seahawks will return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's
plays host to Randolph-Macon College in its final regular-season
game of 2007 at 1:00.
