St. Mary's City, Md. - Sophomore guard
Steph Saint-Aubin (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and
junior forward Allie Scott (Laurel, Md./Atholton)
for 49 points as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's
basketball team rolled to its second straight win with a 81-49
victory Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) newcomer, Hood College,
Saturday afternoon.
Saint-Aubin led all players with season-highs of 26 points on
11-of-13 shooting and four assists, while Scott recorded a
double-double on season-bests of 23 points and 13 rebounds as the
Seahawks improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the CAC.
St. Mary's dominated the Blazers from the opening tip-off,
jumping out to a 6-0 lead as senior guard Megan
Uglik (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), Scott and Saint-Aubin all
scored. Hood's first field goal came at 17:19 on a layup by
sophomore forward Jen Willison (Hancock,
Md./Hancock) and the Blazers only trailed 6-2, the closest they
would be the entire contest.
Behind 14 first-half points from Saint-Aubin, the Seahawks
doubled up on Hood and boasted a 40-20 halftime advantage.
St. Mary's shot 18-of-30 (.600) from the field compared to the
Blazers' 30% shooting percentage. Junior guard
Jessica Parrish (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville CC)
paced Hood with eight points off the bench.
The Seahawks continued to build upon their lead in the second
half with their biggest margin of 34 coming on three separate
occasions in the last 3:31 of the contest.
Freshman forward Tiara Hurte (Baltimore,
Md./Perry Hall) also finished in double figures for the Hawks with
16 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Uglik
grabbed a season-high seven caroms.
The Blazers had three players in double digits as Willison,
Parrish and sophomore guard Brianna Raithel
(Hagerstown, Md./Tuscarora) each tallied 10 points.
St. Mary's returns to action next Saturday when the Seahawks
entertain No. 3 Messiah College in non-conference play at
2:00. The Blazers are idle until Monday, January 7,
2008, when they return to Governor Thomas Johnson High School
to host Penn State University-York at 6:00.
