Newport News, Va. - The
Christopher Newport University women's basketball team notched a
78-59 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland in non-conference
action Tuesday night as the Captains' had three players score in
double figures.
After a scoreless first two minutes, the Seahawks (1-4) jumped
out to a 10-2 advantage at 15:48 as senior forward Allie
Scott (Laurel, Md./Atholton) scored six points. This
would their biggest of the game as CNU came back with a 12-7 run to
claim a lead that the Captains would never relinquish.
Christopher Newport would continue to bolster its lead and post a
41-28 margin at halftime.

Hopkins (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) each tallied 10
first-half points, while sophomore Jessica Moore
(Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) led all players with seven
rebounds. In the first half, the Seahawks were scoreless from
downtown and only made 40% of their free throw attempts.
The Captains, who shot 56.7% from the field in the first half,
registered a .500 field goal percentage in the second stanza to
finish the game shooting 53.3% from the floor. CNU boasted
its biggest lead of 29 (70-41) with 7:24 left in the game.
Sophomore guard Chelsie Schweers (Chesapeake,
Va./Hickory) led all players with 18 points and six assists, while
Hopkins finished with 16 on 7-of-9 shooting.
Freshman guard Alysa Kerr (Woodbridge,
Va./Freedom) added 15 points and six assists.
Scott paced the Seahawks with 16 points and
five boards, while sophomore guard Megan Seeman
(Frederick, Md./Linganore) contributed 10 points. Senior
forward Tori Whitlow (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls)
had a career-best seven caroms and a season-high six points.
St. Mary's is hoping to snap its four-game losing streak on
Sunday, November 30 when the Seahawks travel to Winchester, Va. for
a non-conference contest against Shenandoah University at 2:00.
