Oneonta Tops St. Mary's, 9-4

Cocoa Beach, Fla. - SUNY College at Oneonta used a four-run sixth inning to record a 9-4 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland in non-conference baseball action Tuesday morning in sunny Florida.

Oneonta's senior Josh Bedosky (Johnson City, N.Y.) doubled to left center to bring home sophomore Steven Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) who had singled up the middle to start the sixth inning.  Junior Brian Holmes (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) notched the next run on a fielder's choice as the Seahawks attempted a double play to end the inning.  The final two runs of the inning which gave the Red Dragons an 8-4 advantage were a result of a double to right center by sophomore Dan Randall (Salem, N.Y.).

Oneonta (2-3) tacked on its ninth run in the eighth as senior right-hander Ryan Cole (Mahopac, N.Y.) picked up his first win of the season, allowing four runs on five hits in six innings pitched with three strikeouts.

St. Mary's (6-7) drops its second straight as sophomore righty Jon Gill (Owings Mills, Md./Park) suffered his first loss of the season.  Gill (2-1) allowed four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.

The Seahawks posted a 1-0 lead in the top of second inning as freshman Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) connected on a single down the right field line with two outs to score freshman Matt Streich (E. Greenwich, R.I./E. Greenwich) who had tripled to right field to reach base.

St. Mary's tacked on two more runs in the third as sophomore Jacen Killebrew (La Plata, Md./La Plata) and freshman Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) leadoff the inning with back-to-back infield singles and a stolen base for each.  Killebrew scored on an error by junior Ryan Myers (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Baden advanced to third.  Baden came home on senior Mike Broccolino's (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Oneonta knotted the contest at 3-3 in the bottom of the third as Gauck crossed home plate on Bedosky's sac fly to leftfield after Gauck was hit by freshman righty Mikel Iraola (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha) to leadoff the inning.  Then the Red Dragons trailed by only one when Holmes scored on a passed ball by junior J.P. Debrowski (Sykesville, Md./Glenelg).  The third run was scored by Myers on Randall's single up the middle.  Myers had reached on an error by Streich.

Streich gave the Seahawks a one-run in the fourth as he came home on a sac fly to centerfield by junior Jason Turen (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) after Streich lead off with a single to left and went to third on a wild pitch by Cole.

The Red Dragons tied it up once more at 4-4 in the fourth as freshman Pete Lindner (Voorheesvile, N.Y.) crossed home plate on an error by Baden after reaching on an error by junior Blake Beaudoin (Damascus, Md./Damascus) to lead off the inning and then stealing second.
