Box Score

Cocoa, Fla. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team dropped its third straight as the Seahawks gave away a 6-2 lead and New England College rallied for the 10-8 non-conference victory down in Florida Wednesday morning.

After five innings, the Seahawks (6-8) owned a 6-2 advantage as St. Mary's capitalized on six hits, including one RBI double by freshman outfielder Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall), and three Pilgrim errors.

New England's (3-2) comeback rally began in the top of the sixth inning as the Pilgrims notched four runs to knot the game at 6 all.

The Pilgrims earned their second lead (7-6) of the game as Joe Clark singled to drive in Jimmy Lauzon in the seventh.

However, St. Mary's answered right back in its half of the seventh when sophomore catcher Trey Cole (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) doubled to left center to score sophomore outfielder Justin Rabon (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata).

NEC sealed the win in the eighth as the Pilgrims tacked on three more runs.  New England took advantage of three Seahawk errors, scoring three runs on two hits.

SMCM added a run in the eighth as well when senior infielder Jay Benedetti (Laurel, Md./Hammond) scored on an error by NEC.

St. Mary's freshman righty Barrett Enix (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) retired the side in order in the ninth with two fly outs to the outfield and one strikeout looking, keeping the Seahawks within two.  Enix (0-2) suffered the loss after pitching 3.1 innings of relief, giving up two earned runs on three hits.

But Donovan Funk pitched a strong ninth as well with a ground out, a walk, a pop up and a strikeout looking.  Funk (1-0) earned the victory with two solid innings as he allowed only one run on one hit with a pair of walks.

Mike Caravella led the Pilgrims at the plate with a 4-for-5 effort with two runs and an RBI.  Four other NEC players connected on two hits each.

Sophomore DH Donald Redmiles (Davidsonville, Md./DeMatha) was the Seahawk hitting leader, going 4-of-5 with two RBI.  Corton, senior infielder Mike Lance (Eldersburg, Md./Centennial) and Cole each had two hits.
