Salisbury University remained undefeated with a dominating 23-4
victory over the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team
in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action Friday night in front
of a crowd of 1,196.
The Sea Gulls (14-0, 7-0 CAC) wasted no time in jumping out to a
4-0 advantage in a 2:20-minute span behind three unassisted goals
from Matt Hickman. SU went on to outscore
St. Mary's, 8-2, in the first 15 minutes. Attackmen
Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) and
Josh Hostetler (Clarksville, Md./River Hill)
helped the Seahawks avoid the shutout in the first period.
It was the Salisbury show in the second quarter as the Sea Gulls
notched five unanswered goals with Hickman adding two more, giving
SU a 13-2 halftime lead.
Salisbury started the third frame with four consecutive goals to
wrap up a 10-0 run before Hostetler found the back of the net for
his second of the game at 0:40.
The Sea Gulls scored three in a row to kick off the final period
before sophomore midfielder Taylor Burgdorf (South
Portland, Maine/South Portland) netted the Seahawks' fourth and
final goal at 7:46. SU closed out the contest on a 3-0 spurt.
Salisbury doubled up on shots over St. Mary's (7-6, 5-2 CAC),
52-27, and picked up 40 of 65 ground balls. However, the
Seahawks controlled the face-off, winning 17 of 30 behind the
efforts of junior face-off specialist Marc
DiPasquale (Joppa, Md./Boys' Latin) who won 14-of-26.
Hickman finished the night with a game-high seven goals and
eight points, while Mike Von Kamecke contributed
two goals and an assist. Ben Sandlin caused
four turnovers and scooped up four loose balls.
DiPasquale had five ground balls, while junior long-stick middie
Brian Wallace (Landenburg, Pa./Avon) had four
caused turnovers and three loose ball pick-ups.
Zach Krissoff started the game for the Sea
Gulls, making seven saves with two goals against in 38:53.
Freshmen goalies JJ Strombosky (Westford,
Mass./Rivers) and Pat Simpson (Arnold,
Md./Broadneck) split time between the pipes as the duo combined for
14 saves.
The Seahawks return to action on Monday, April 14 as St. Mary's
hosts a CAC quarterfinal contest at 4:00 in Seahawk Stadium.
SMCM will either face the University of Mary Washington or
Marymount (Va.) University.
