York, Pa. - Jacen Killebrew
(La Plata, Md./La Plata) became the first St. Mary's College of
Maryland baseball player to be picked as a conference
player-of-the-week as Killebrew was selected as the Capital
Athletic Conference (CAC) Baseball Co-Player-of-the-Week for the
week ending April 27.
Killebrew shares the honor with Salisbury's
sophomore first baseman Mike Celenza who drilled a
pair of two-run homers to lift the fourth-ranked Sea Gulls to an
8-3 win over Christopher Newport.
The 6-2 sophomore centerfielder hit .500 (7-for-14) with four runs
scored and five RBI. Killebrew had a pair of
multiple RBI games for the Seahawks, who won three of five games
last week to end the 2008 campaign at 19-21-1.
The transfer from Division II Catawba College started the week
with a 2-for-3 effort in an 8-0 win over Lancaster Bible College on
April 23. Killebrew scored twice, drove in
one and connected on his seventh double of the season.
In his only at-bat in a 3-0 loss to Frostburg State University
on April 26, he picked up his eighth double of 2008.
Killebrew then went 2-for-5 with two runs scored
and two RBI in an 8-7 loss to Frostburg State.
He finished the week with a 2-for-5 effort with two RBI as the
Seahawks tallied a 4-1 victory over Washington (Md.) College in
their season finale on April 27.
Killebrew finished his rookie campaign at SMCM
as St. Mary's top hitter with a .338 average with team-highs of 44
hits and 24 stolen bases. He was second with 28 runs, eight
doubles, while being third with 21 RBI and fourth with two
triples.
