St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College
of Maryland baseball team's home doubleheader with No. 6 Salisbury
University was suspended in the top of the third inning of the
first game due to the persistent rainfall that gradually grew
stronger as the game progressed.
The contest will be made up at some point this week but no date
has been picked as Salisbury has conference games on Monday,
Wednesday and Saturday and St. Mary's plays Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday.
Before the game was suspended, Salisbury owned a 5-0 advantage
with a pair of runs in the first, two more in the second and one in
the third just before the delay.
With bases loaded and two outs, the Sea Gulls scored two runs in
the first as infielders Randy Boyle
(Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) and Justin
Armiger (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) crossed the plate
on a Seahawk error.
Junior Jordan Crystal (Frostburg,
Md./Lindenhurst) plated a run in the second on a two-out single to
right field by Boyle. Boyle then came home on Armiger's
single up the middle.
After picking up a leadoff walk and advancing on a wild pitch,
senior catcher Tyler Riley (Snow Hill, Md./Snow
Hill) scored SU's fifth run in the third on a second Seahawk
error. When the game was called, senior outfielder
Brian Camper (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) was
up to bat and freshman infielder Will Evans
(Salisbury, Md./Bennett) was on third following a single to left
field, a stolen base, and the Seahawk error.
Senior right-hander Ryan D'Antuono (Ellicott
City, Md./Howard) was the starter for St. Mary's, allowing five
runs (two earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and four walks
in two innings.
For Salisbury, junior righty Eric Willey
(Cambridge, Md./Cambridge) was on the mound and had pitched two
hitless innings with one strikeout and one hit batter.
