Frederick, Md. - Freshman forward
Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) recorded a
goal and two assists in leading St. Mary's College of Maryland to
its second consecutive win with a 4-0 shutout of Hood College in
Capital Athletic Conference field hockey action Wednesday
afternoon.
The Seahawks (8-5, 2-3 CAC) came out firing, striking first at
5:32. Sophomore forward Susan Smith
(Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) picked up her second goal of
the season off an assist by freshman forward Lauriann
Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg).
Junior goalkeeper Anne Marie Hantman
(Queenstown, Md./Kent Island) notched 14 saves in the first half in
holding St. Mary's to only a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Hantman went on to end the afternoon with 23
saves.
The Seahawks amped up their offensive pressure in the second
half as freshman midfielder Brooke Masimore
(Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) tallied her first collegiate goal at
39:57 following a feed from Smith.
Parker picked up her team-leading 11th goal of
the season at 41:52 as she converted a penalty stroke.
Freshman Ellen Hackstaff (Denver, Colo./St.
Mary's Academy) finished off the scoring at 47:39 as
Hackstaff completed a feed from
Parker.
St. Mary's attacking presence was felt from the first minute of
the game as the Seahawks rattled off 39 shots and obtained 22
penalty corners while the defense held Hood (4-10, 0-6 CAC) to just
one second-half shot and no corners.
Junior Emma Lauhoff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) made
just one save in 52:40 and combined with sophomore Caitlin
Cromer (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) for the Seahawks'
third shutout of the season.
St. Mary's will return to action this Saturday, October 24 as
the Seahawks welcome York (Pa.) College to Seahawk Stadium for
conference action at 1:00 pm on Senior Day. Prior to the
start of the game, St. Mary's three seniors will be recognized for
contributions on and off the field.
