Stevenson Completes Three-Game Sweep of St. Mary's

Box Score

Glen Burnie, Md. - The Stevenson University baseball team took its place atop of the Capital Athletic Conference standings with the Mustangs' 13-3 rout of St. Mary's College of Maryland Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated in league play thus far.

Stevenson (8-2, 6-0 CAC) scored four runs in the first inning to set the game's tone.  The Mustangs went on to establish a 5-0 lead after three innings of play.

The Seahawks (9-6, 3-3 CAC) cut the deficit to 5-2 in the fourth inning as junior second baseman Lyle Kralle (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) led off with a single and then came home on senior catcher J.P. Debrowski's (Sykesville, Md./Glenelg) single to left field.  St. Mary's second run came when sophomore shortstop Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) scored on an error by Stevenson's catcher, senior Griffin Stewart (Reisterstown, Md./Bel Air).

St. Mary's pulled within 5-3 in the fifth as sophomore right fielder Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly to right field by Baden.

That was the closest the Seahawks would get as Stevenson added three runs in the bottom of the fifth and five in the seventh.  The Mustangs finished with 13 runs on 15 hits but only three were earned.

Junior RHP Derrick Nason (Catonsville, Md./Reservoir) improved to 3-0 on the year as Nason threw 7.0 innings with two earned runs on five hits.  He struck out four and walked three.

Stewart made up for his error in the fourth by going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Dustin Tarlow (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Three other Mustangs notched two hits in the win.

Sophomore RHP Barrett Enix (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) suffered his first loss of the season as Stevenson scored five unearned runs on seven hits and two errors during Enix' (2-1) 3.0 innings.

The Seahawks hope to turnaround their three-game losing streak this Thursday, March 12 when St. Mary's hosts No. 20 Christopher Newport University in a non-conference nine-inning single game at 3:00 in the Hawk's Nest.
