Hat Tricks by Rosson, Becraft Lift St. Mary's Past Marymount, 11-6

Box Score

Arlington, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team bounced back from Saturday's loss to York (Pa.) College with an 11-6 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Marymount (Va.) University behind hat tricks from sophomore attackmen Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) and Chris Becraft (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel).

Rosson finished with a game-high four points as he added a helper as well, while freshman attackman Brendan Oster (Mt. Airy, Md./Urbana) contributed two goals and an assist.

St. Mary's (4-5, 2-2 CAC) established a 2-1 lead after the first period following tallies by Rosson and freshman John Dehm (Trumbull, Conn./Middlesex [Mass.]) to erase Marymount's 1-0 lead.

The Saints (5-6, 1-4 CAC) outscored St. Mary's 4-2 in the second quarter, including three straight, to post a 5-4 halftime advantage.  Sophomore middie Tom Anderson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) led the Saints in the period with two goals.

Three consecutive goals by the Seahawks to start the third stanza helped the visitors reclaim the lead for good at 2:49 (7-5).  Saint senior captain Alex Curley (Richmond, Va./Thomas Dale) closed the gap to within one with 38 seconds left in the quarter but Marymount would get no closer.

St. Mary's defense went to work in the final period as the Seahawks held Marymount scoreless, including killing three extra-man opportunities, while freshman Pat Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made seven stops to finish the evening with 17 saves in goal.  Becraft scored twice in the final 15 minutes to seal Seahawk win.

Senior captain Marc DiPasquale (Fallston, Md./Boys' Latin) captured 14-of-19 face-offs, including winning 5-of-7 in the second period, as DiPasquale bested Marymount's freshman Joe Rafferty (Bethesda, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) who finished 4-of-16.

The Seahawks took 38 shots to the home team's 33, while edging the Saints 32-30 in ground balls.

Anderson paced the Marymount offense with two goals, while sophomore attackman Danny Carson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and senior attackman Kevin Conklin (Parsonsburg, Md./Wicomico) each tallied a goal and an assist.  In goal, junior Joe Gagliardi (Carney's Point, N.J./Salesianum) notched 14 stops in the loss.

St. Mary's returns to action this Saturday, April 4 with a conference match-up in Dover, Delaware against Wesley College at 1:30 pm.
