Virginia Beach, Va. - Freshman Chelsea Bradcovich's (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 singles flight propelled St. Mary's College of Maryland to a 5-4 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday morning.

The Seahawks (2-0) enjoyed a 2-1 lead at the start of singles play as the tandem of sophomore Katie Lackler (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and freshman Beth Handy (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) notched an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while the duo of sophomores Alli Crawford (Frederick, Md./Urbana) and Jackie Brady (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) posted an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Senior Shannon Sabo (White Haven, Pa.) tallied a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, junior Meredith Willett (Rumney, N.H.) notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, and senior Morgan Franklin (Newport News, Va./Peninsula Catholic) gutted out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 win at No. 4 singles to give Virginia Wesleyan (0-1) a 4-2 lead in the match.

Handy's hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win at No. 3 singles and freshman Marie Rau's (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 6 flight knotted the match at 4-4.

St. Mary's will return to action next Saturday, September 26 as the Seahawks welcome Catholic University to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a match at noon.
