Seahawks Blank Cazenovia

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior captain Jacen Killebrew (La Plata, Md./La Plata) went 2-for-5 at the plate and junior RHP Barrett Enix (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) yielded just four hits as the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team posted a 5-0 shutout over Cazenovia College Wednesday afternoon.

As the leadoff hitter, Killebrew connected on his third double of the season, scored two runs, drove in a run, and stole a base.  Enix struck out three and walked three in five innings of work in improving to 2-0 on the season.

The Seahawks (3-6) notched a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Killebrew came home on senior Donald Redmiles' (Davidsonville, Md./DeMatha) two-out single.  Killebrew had led off with a bunt single and then stole second.

St. Mary's continued the scoring in the second with three more runs as senior Lyle Kralle (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) crossed home plate on Killebrew's RBI double after Kralle led off with a bunt single, stole second and advanced to third on junior Ian Simpson-Shelton's (Upper Marlboro, Md./DeMatha) single up the middle.  Simpson-Shelton scored on junior Brad Shepherd's (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) single while Killebrew came home when sophomore Nick Urso (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) was walked by first-year LHP Kory Besaw (De Kalb Junction, N.Y./Hermon De Kalb) with bases loaded.

The home team's final run came in the fourth inning when junior Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) scored on junior Bobby Corton's (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) single after Bade led off with a single.

Solid pitching by Enix as well as junior RHP Mikel Iraola (Kensington, Md./DeMatha) and sophomore Mike Victory (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) in relief kept the Wildcats scoreless.  The Seahawk pitching staff gave up just five hits while fanning five.

Five different Wildcats (1-4) notched singles while Besaw (0-1) suffered the loss as he gave up four runs on seven hits with three walks.

The Seahawks will be in sunny Florida for their next contest as St. Mary's will face University of Wisconsin, Superior at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
