York, Pa. – A week after York (Pa.)
College nipped St. Mary's College of Maryland, 5-4, to clinch the
third seed in the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Tennis
Tournament; sixth-seeded St. Mary's returned the favor by upending
the Spartans, 5-4, in first-round action Sunday afternoon.
With the win, St. Mary's (10-9) now advances to Monday's semifinal
match at No. 2 seed Salisbury University at 3:00 pm while York's
(7-9) season comes to a close.
There was a reversal of fortune this afternoon for first-year
Chelsea
Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) as last
week, Bradcovich was on the receiving end of a
6-0, 6-3 loss to junior Stephanie Nelson
(Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) at No. 5 singles which lifted the
Spartans to the 5-4 win.
However, this time around, Bradcovich posted a
7-6 (3-0), 6-4 triumph over first-year Samantha
Hunt (Albany, N.Y./Albany) at the No. 5 flight.
Sophomore Katie Lackler
(Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and first-year Beth Handy
(Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) secured the Seahawks' only doubles win with
a close 8-6 victory over sophomore Samantha
Brenner (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) and first-year
Megan McCullin (New Windsor, Md./Westminster) at
the No. 2 flight.
