No. 1 Salisbury Snaps Seahawks' Three-Game Win Streak

Box Score

Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team had their win streak halted at three as seniors Jake DeLillo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and Mike Von Kamecke (Winter Park, Fla./Bishop Moore) combined for seven goals in leading No. 1 Salisbury University to an 18-5 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the visiting Seahawks Wednesday night.

DeLillo found the back of the net four times while Von Kamecke finished the night with a hat trick.  Sophomores Kyle Quist (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Sam Bradman (Canton, N.Y./Canton) and junior midfielder Shawn Zordani (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) each contributed two goals in the game as 10 different Sea Gulls scored.

Salisbury (13-0, 4-0 CAC) opened up with a 3-1 lead in the first quarter as the Sea Gulls notched the game's first three scores.  Sophomore attackman Brendan Oster (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) put the Seahawks on the scoreboard with an unassisted tally at 1:35.

The Sea Gulls outscored St. Mary's by a 5-1 margin in the second period to head into halftime with a 10-2 advantage.  Junior midfielder Bobby Cooke (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) picked up the Seahawks' lone goal off an assist from Oster.

Oster paced St. Mary's (6-4, 3-1 CAC) with two goals and an assist to match his career-highs while Cooke ended the night with two goals as well.

Salisbury dominated the third stanza as the Sea Gulls kept St. Mary's scoreless while rattling off five unanswered goals, including Bradman's two.

The home team extended their scoring run to 10 straight goals with three scores to start the fourth period as the Sea Gull defense held St. Mary's scoreless for nearly 27 minutes before Cooke and junior attackman Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) finally broke through with back-to-back man-up goals.  Oster tallied the Seahawks' final goal with nine seconds left in the game.

Salisbury controlled all offensive categories – 51-23 in shots, 47-30 in ground balls and 17-of-26 in face-offs.  A bright spot for the Seahawks was their man-up opportunities as St. Mary's was 3-for-5.

Junior Johnny Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) made eight stops in 48:32 of work to notch his 12 win.

Junior Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) recorded 12 saves in 46:32 of action while junior Pat Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) closed out the game with two stops.

The Seahawks will continue their road trip this Saturday, April 10 as St. Mary's travels to York, Pa. to take on York College in another league tilt at 1:00 pm.
