Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's
College of Maryland men's lacrosse team had their win streak
halted at three as seniors Jake DeLillo (Yorktown
Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and Mike Von Kamecke
(Winter Park, Fla./Bishop Moore) combined for seven goals in
leading No. 1 Salisbury University to an 18-5 Capital Athletic
Conference victory over the visiting Seahawks Wednesday night.
DeLillo found the back of the net four times
while Von Kamecke finished the night with a hat
trick. Sophomores Kyle Quist (Doylestown,
Pa./Central Bucks East) and Sam Bradman (Canton,
N.Y./Canton) and junior midfielder Shawn Zordani
(Littleton, Colo./Heritage) each contributed two goals in the game
as 10 different Sea Gulls scored.
Salisbury (13-0, 4-0 CAC) opened up with a 3-1 lead in the first
quarter as the Sea Gulls notched the game's first three
scores. Sophomore attackman Brendan Oster
(Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) put the Seahawks on the scoreboard with an
unassisted tally at 1:35.
The Sea Gulls outscored St. Mary's by a 5-1 margin in the
second period to head into halftime with a 10-2 advantage.
Junior midfielder Bobby Cooke (Ellicott City,
Md./Mt. Hebron) picked up the Seahawks' lone goal off an
assist from Oster.
Oster paced St. Mary's (6-4, 3-1 CAC)
with two goals and an assist to match his career-highs while
Cooke ended the night with two goals as well.
Salisbury dominated the third stanza as the Sea Gulls kept St.
Mary's scoreless while rattling off five unanswered goals,
including Bradman's two.
The home team extended their scoring run to 10 straight goals
with three scores to start the fourth period as the Sea Gull
defense held St. Mary's scoreless for nearly 27 minutes
before Cooke and junior attackman Dennis
Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) finally broke through
with back-to-back man-up goals. Oster
tallied the Seahawks' final goal with nine seconds left in
the game.
Salisbury controlled all offensive categories – 51-23 in
shots, 47-30 in ground balls and 17-of-26 in face-offs. A
bright spot for the Seahawks was their man-up opportunities as St.
Mary's was 3-for-5.
Junior Johnny Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md./Mt. St.
Joseph) made eight stops in 48:32 of work to notch his 12 win.
Junior Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's)
recorded 12 saves in 46:32 of action while junior Pat
Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) closed out the game with
two stops.
The Seahawks will continue their road trip this Saturday, April
10 as St. Mary's travels to York, Pa. to take on York College
in another league tilt at 1:00 pm.
