only multiple winner for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's
tennis as the Seahawks suffered a 5-4 setback to Lancaster Bible
College in their home- and season-opener.
Sophomore Brianna Funk (Manheim, Pa./Manheim
Central) registered the match-winning point for Lancaster Bible
with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win over sophomore
Marie
Rau (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) at No. 3 singles.
St. Mary's (0-1) headed into singles play with a 2-1 advantage
as Bradcovich paired up with Rau
for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles while the tandem of juniors
Aviva
Brown (Pasadena, Md./Old Mill) and Alli Crawford
(Frederick, Md./Urbana) needed a tiebreaker to capture the No. 3
flight, 8-7 (7-4).
The Seahawks moved to 3-1 as junior Kathleen Ramsey
(Dunkirk, Md./Northern) notched a straight-set win, 6-1, 6-0 at No.
4 singles before Lancaster Bible (2-1) posted wins at No. 6, No. 1,
and No. 2 singles to stake a 4-3 edge.
Bradcovich went on to tally a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0
triumph at No. 5 singles to even up the score at 4-all.
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow as St. Mary's welcomes
Shenandoah University to the Somerset Tennis Complex for
non-conference action at 2:00 pm.
