Owings Mills, Md. – Sophomore forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) netted the game-winning goal just 47 seconds into the start of the second 10-minute overtime period to lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to a come-from-behind 3-2 double OT victory over host Stevenson University Wednesday night.

Parker had a breakaway down the field, beat one defender and then went one-on-one with senior goalie Kara Zimmerman (Odenton, Md./Arundel), beating Zimmerman with her eighth goal of the season at 85:47.

The Seahawks (5-0, 2-0 CAC) overcame a two-goal deficit to claim tonight's win and remain undefeated on the season.  For their historic start, St. Mary's was ranked 20th in the www.womensfieldhockey.com weekly poll – the program's first-ever national ranking.

Stevenson (4-3, 0-2 CAC) needed just two shots to stake a 2-0 advantage at 39:59.  The Mustangs had claimed an early 1-0 lead at 1:19 as junior Brittany Martin (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) redirected the ball in front to sophomore forward Kaitlyn May (Arnold, Md./Spalding) for the finish.

St. Mary's peppered Zimmerman with 13 shots to finish the half with a 13-1 margin on shots.  However, Zimmerman denied 10 of those shots to preserve the 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Mustangs struck again in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes remaining in the game.  This time, Martin tallied a goal as she received a cross from senior forward Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium, Md./Maryvale Prep).

The Seahawks finally got on the scoreboard at 43:00 as sophomore midfielder Natalie Hackstaff (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy) connected with her twin, Ellen, for the score, cutting the lead to one.  Parker evened up the game at 2-all as she converted on a penalty stroke at 60:38 to force overtime.

In the first 10-minute overtime period, St. Mary's was the only one to take a shot as the Seahawks finished with a 21-2 shot advantage for the game.  The visitors also posted a 16-3 margin in penalty corners.

Senior Lydia Garcia (Bowie, Md./Seton) made no saves in notching her fifth win of the season.  Zimmerman ended the evening with nine stops while senior defender Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) had three defensive saves.

St. Mary's will return to action this Saturday, September 18 when they travel to Salem, Va. to take on Roanoke College in non-conference action at 2:00 pm.
