Match Results

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team remained undefeated in Capital Athletic Conference action Tuesday afternoon as the Seahawks (6-6, 2-0) edged Stevenson University, 5-4, behind junior Sarah Minkoff's (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) straight set win at No. 5 singles.

For the second straight match, Minkoff recorded the deciding point as she did the same in St. Mary's 5-4 win at Wesley College on March 25.  Minkoff needed scores of 6-2, 7-5 to get past first-year Jordan Rupard (North Beach, Md./Southern) and put the Seahawks ahead 5-3.

Stevenson (5-6, 1-2 CAC) started the match with a 2-1 margin as the Mustangs captured No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.  The tandem of junior Kathleen Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and first-year Alyssa Stine (Columbia, Md./Atholton) notched the Seahawks' first point with a 9-7 triumph over Rupard and first-year Rachel Sandora (Bellmawr, N.J./Wildwood) at third doubles.

Stine then tied the match at 2-2 with her sixth consecutive victory – a 6-0, 6-3 win over junior Michelle Huber (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) at No. 6 singles.  Stevenson's junior Stephanie Eyler (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) returned a one-point lead to her squad with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over sophomore Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) at No. 3 singles.

The match was tied once again as first-year Alexa Gaul (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) picked up her fourth straight win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over sophomore Wendy Ogbolu (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) at the second singles flight.  Gaul improves her unblemished record to 4-0.

The Seahawks claimed the next two singles matches as well to stretch their lead to 5-3 as Ramsey notched a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 triumph over senior Julie Strong (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) at No. 4 singles followed by Minkoff's match-deciding win at No. 5 singles.

St. Mary's has a busy weekend coming up as the Seahawks welcome Frostburg State University and York College of Pennsylvania to the Somerset Tennis Complex.  St. Mary's will face conference newcomer, Frostburg State, on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00 pm while taking on York the next day at 1:00 pm as well.
