St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior attackman Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) equaled the school record for most goals in a game as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team notched their first win of the season with a 12-6 victory over non-conference opponent, McDaniel College, Wednesday afternoon.

Rosson fired off seven goals on 11 shots to match the feat he had accomplished last season against The College of Wooster (March 10, 2010).  Two other Seahawks have scored seven goals in a game – Dave Mueller '06 (three times) and Pat Oliphant '08 (once).

St. Mary's (1-2) came out firing in the first period, scoring four goals in a span of 2:27 en route to a 5-0 lead after one quarter of play.  Rosson scored three of the five goals.

The Seahawks stretched their lead to 7-0 at 12:36 with back-to-back man-up goals by first-year attackman Max Reamer (Pikesville, Md./Friends) and Rosson to start the second stanza.  McDaniel avoided the shutout with two goals in two minutes by juniors DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin) and Nick DiBernardo (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall).  St. Mary's closed out the half with two goals to head into halftime with a 9-2 advantage.

Joining Rosson with a multiple-goal outing was junior attackman Michael Mules (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin) as Mules netted two goals and helped on another while sophomore Patrick Mull (Fallston, Md./Fallston) dished out three assists.

McDaniel (1-3) held the Seahawks scoreless in the third quarter while scoring three to cut their deficit to 9-5, including two in an 11-second span in the final 25 seconds of the period.

Rosson notched back-to-back goals to give St. Mary's an 11-5 advantage at the 6:19 mark followed by senior midfielder Bobby Cooke's (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) man-up goal at 2:10 to return his team's seven-goal halftime margin.  Rickels found the back of the net with 13 seconds left for McDaniel's final tally.

St. Mary's won the ground ball battle, 31-24, as well as the face-off fight (12-21) with first-year midfielder Cody Tidwell (Edgewater, Md./South River) going 8-of-13.  The Seahawks finished 3-of-5 on extra-man opportunities while killing two of three McDaniel EMOs.

Seahawk junior Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) picked up six saves and two goals against in the first half while senior Pat Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made 10 stops in the second half.

St. Mary's looks to stay in the win column this Saturday when they travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania to take on Muhlenberg College in non-conference action at 2:00 pm.
