St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall [Va.]) lifted the visiting Goucher College Gophers to a 5-4 win over the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team Thursday afternoon with her win at No. 5 singles, handing the Seahawks their second straight loss in St. Mary's season finale.

Casey defeated junior Sarah Minkoff (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville), 6-1, 6-2 for Goucher's ninth win of the season as the Gophers even their overall record to 9-9.

The Seahawks finished the 2010-11 campaign with a 9-12 (4-4 CAC) record.  St. Mary's four conference wins matches a program record set by the 2008 squad when the Seahawks finished 4-1 in league action.

Goucher headed into singles action with a 2-1 lead as the tandem of Minkoff and first-year Alyssa Stine (Columbia, Md./Atholton) spoiled the Gopher doubles sweep with their 9-7 triumph over junior Mara Bergman (Summit, N.J./Summit) and sophomore Alyssa Zick (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) at No. 2 doubles.

The Gophers stretched their lead to 4-1 before first-year Alexa Gaul (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bergman at the second singles flight to close the gap to 4-2.

Casey then notched the win at No. 5 singles before the Seahawks captured the last two singles matches for the 5-4 final.

Junior Kathleen Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) finished her campaign with a team-best 12 singles wins as Ramsey improved to 7-2 at No. 4 singles with her 6-2, 6-3 win over senior Jacqui Lamer (Pomona, N.J./Ramapo).  She ended her third year as a Seahawk with a 12-8 record and on a three-match win streak, finishing 5-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Stine tied Ramsey for team honors with 12 singles wins as well as she improved to 7-2 at No. 6 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over first-year Marie Claire Bryant (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro).  Stine finished her rookie season with a 12-4 overall record while going 5-1 in league play.
