Bridgewater, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team picked up a non-conference loss Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks (6-9) dropped an 8-1 decision to Bridgewater (Va.) College.
First-year Alyssa Stine (Columbia, Md./Atholton) notched the lone point for St. Mary's as Stine overcame a 1-0 deficit to win in three. She dropped the first set, 6-1, to sophomore Rita Murphy (Plymouth, Mass./Sacred Heart) before rallying back with 6-3, 10-5 victories.
Junior Kathleen Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) lost a tough battle at No. 5 singles to junior Emily Schweitzer (Glen Allen, Va./J.R. Tucker) as Ramsey posted a 6-2 win in the first set but Schweitzer came back with 6-2, 10-6 triumphs.
St. Mary's will return to action Tuesday, April 12 as the Seahawks welcome NCAA Division II University of the District of Columbia to the Somerset Tennis Complex for non-conference action at 3:30 pm.
