Johnson Leads Seahawk Baseball to Third Consecutive Win

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior Keith Johnson (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team to its third victory in a row, posting a 15-6 non-conference win over the City College of New York Beavers Sunday afternoon.  The Seahawks outscored CCNY, 26-11, in this weekend's three-game series.

Johnson, St. Mary's starting third baseman, connected on two doubles, scored three runs and drove in one in leading the Seahawks offensively.  Junior Stefano Muscatelli (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) and first-year Zach Nadolny (Sparks, Md./Bel Air) each collected two hits while Nadolny and senior John Stewart (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's, Annapolis) notched three RBI apiece.

Senior starter Michael Victory (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) picked up his first win of the season as Victory (1-0) allowed six runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings of work, fanning three Beaver batters.

St. Mary's (3-1) constructed four multiple-run innings in putting away CCNY for the third time in a row.  The Seahawks scored four in the bottom of the second to erase an early 1-0 Beaver lead as Stewart cracked a three-run, two-out double down the leftfield line.

The Beavers (0-3) responded with four in the top of the third to reclaim a one-run lead.  CCNY held the 5-4 advantage until the fifth inning when St. Mary's added three runs on two hits and two Beaver errors for a 7-5 Seahawk margin.

CCNY cut the lead to one in the sixth before the Seahawks claimed a 9-6 edge with two runs in the bottom of the sixth behind Nadolny's RBI single.  St. Mary's broke the game wide open with five scores on just two hits in the seventh as Johnson, Nadolny and junior Corey Napier (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) all drove in a run.

The Seahawks tacked on a run for good measure in the eighth as sophomore Eric Skrzyniarz (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) came home on sophomore Brian Ott's (Columbia, Md./Hammond) sac fly to left field.

Due to the first-ever St. Mary's Day on Wednesday, February 22, the Seahawks' non-conference home game against Christopher Newport University scheduled for that day has been postponed.  Therefore, St. Mary's next contest will take place on Saturday, February 25 at noon as the Seahawks welcome McDaniel College to the Hawk's Nest for a non-conference doubleheader.
