Seahawk Women's Tennis Falls at Goucher

Towson, Md. – In the team's first match since March 10, the tandem of junior Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) and first-year Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) notched the lone point in the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team's 8-1 non-conference loss at Goucher College Thursday afternoon.

St. Mary's (7-3) was only down 2-1 after doubles action as Mullennix and Stumpfig joined forces for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Stumpfig fought hard in her singles match at No. 2, dropping a 4-6, 4-6 decision to first-year Ariel Lin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) for her first dual match loss of the season and snapping Stumpfig's seven-match win streak.

Mullennix suffered a heartbreaking loss as well at No. 6, falling 6-7 (1-7), 1-6 to senior Vickey Casey (Orange, N.J./Chatham Hall [Va.]).

The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, March 31 as St. Mary's travels to Frederick, Maryland to take on Hood College (4-7) in Capital Athletic Conference action at 1:00 pm.
