St. Mary's City, Md. – First-year player Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) set the program's single-season singles wins record Tuesday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team recorded a 9-0 victory over the visiting York College of Pennsylvania Spartans in Capital Athletic Conference action.
Stumpfig posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles for her 16th singles wins of the season, surpassing the old record of 15 set by senior Kathleen Ramsey (Owings, Md./Northern) and junior Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) in 2010.
The doubles tandem of Stumpfig and junior Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) moved to 9-0 on the season with their 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Sarah Minkoff (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) tallied her eighth consecutive singles match win with a 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Sophomore Alyssa Stine (Columbia, Md./Atholton), the only other Seahawk in double digits besides Stumpfig, notched her 13th win of the season with her 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
St. Mary's will be back in action on Friday, April 13 as the Seahawks welcome Salisbury University, who ranks 17th in the Atlantic South region, to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a league match at 3:30 pm. Prior to the start of the match, St. Mary's will recognize its four seniors: Minkoff, Ramsey, Jackie Brady (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and Allie Crawford (Frederick, Md./Urbana).
