St. Mary's Men's Lacrosse Locks up No. 3 Seed

St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior attacker Patrick Mull (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team in its 16-4 loss at No. 1 Salisbury University in Capital Athletic Conference action Wednesday night.  The loss clinched the No. 3 seed for the Seahawks in the 2012 CAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament which begins Sunday, April 22 with first round action.

St. Mary's (9-5, 6-2 CAC) will host a first round game on Sunday at 2:00 pm; however, its opponent is still unknown as Marymount (Va.) University and Hood College play Thursday to determine who will be the sixth seed and the Seahawks' opponent on Sunday.

Mull tallied a goal and an assist while attackers John Dehm (Trumbull, Conn./Middlesex School [Mass.]), Eric Simon (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), and Matt Tarrant (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) each contributed a goal.

Salisbury (16-0, 8-0 CAC) opened up with a 2-0 lead before Dehm put the Seahawks on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 6:53.  The Sea Gulls then notched two goals in the final 34 seconds of the first quarter to head into the second stanza with a 4-1 margin.

Salisbury continued its scoring run in the second period as the Sea Gulls fired off six straight to extend their run to 8-0.  Simon scored a man-up goal in the final minute of the half off a Mull assist to snap Salisbury's run.  The Sea Gulls headed into halftime with a 10-2 advantage.

Senior attacker Kyle Quist (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) paced Salisbury in scoring with four goals and an assist while senior midfielder Sam Bradman (Canton, N.Y./Canton) netted four points on three goals and an assist.

Mull picked up where the Seahawks left off at the end of the first half as he tallied an unassisted goal at 13:51 of the third quarter.  Salisbury finished off the period with four straight scores for a 14-3 margin after three.

Tarrant notched the first goal of the fourth period at 8:18 before the Sea Gulls tacked on two more for the 16-4 final.

Salisbury outshot the Seahawks, 42-23, while owning a 45-27 advantage in ground balls.  The Sea Gulls also won 16-of-23 face-offs.

The Seahawk defense killed four Salisbury extra-man opportunities while senior goalie Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) made 12 saves between the pipes.
