York, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team secured home field advantage in the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship Tournament with a gutsy 4-3 road win over York College of Pennsylvania. Both teams were fighting for fourth place in the playoffs and the Seahawks battled all game long to hang on for the win.

With today's win, St. Mary's locked up home-field advantage and will host the No. 5 seed on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 pm. The opponent will be determined after tomorrow's last two conference games – Christopher Newport University at University of Mary Washington and Salisbury University at Wesley College. The fifth seed could be York, Frostburg State University, or Wesley College.

Today marks the first time since 2010 that the Seahawks have recorded a 10-win season as St. Mary's improves to 10-5 (3-3 CAC) on the season.

York (4-12, 1-5 CAC) was looking to avenge last year's playoff loss to the Seahawks (10-5, 3-3 CAC) but the offensive pressure by forwards Olivia Edwards (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Brady Wolf (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) proved too much for the Spartans to handle.

The Spartans struck first in the game after junior Nancy Saylor (Manheim, Pa.) scored her sixth of the season just 1:16 in. Down 1-0, St. Mary's didn't back down and kept the pressure on.

The pressure paid off when Wolf scored off of a pass from Edwards to even the score 1-1 at 14:24. Edwards was not finished as she found the back of the net at 24:08 off of a feed from senior captain Rachel Heiss (Silver Spring Md./Paint Branch) to give the Seahawks a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

York would again score first in the second half after sophomore Holly Martin (Hanover, Pa.) scored at 41:38 to knot the game once again. However, the dynamic duo of Edwards and Wolf would not be silenced as Wolf would score the eventual game-winning goal with her second of the game at 58:37. Edwards notched St. Mary's final goal shortly after Wolf's at 61:28 to stake a 4-2 advantage.

York outshot the Seahawks, 21-10, and held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners but junior Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) came up big with five saves while sophomore defender Ally Dahlen (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) tallied her fourth defensive save of the season.
