Box Score Vero Beach, Fla. – Senior shortstop Corey Napier (Hollywood, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and sophomore right fielder Brad Dioguardo (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) paced the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team with three hits each as the Seahawks ended their Spring Break trip with a 13-5 non-conference win over Norwich University Thursday morning.
Napier went 3-for-5 with four runs scored while Dioguardo was 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored in St. Mary's (7-9) second consecutive slugfest of the week. The Seahawks scored 13 runs on 15 hits and seven errors while Norwich notched five on 13 hits and three errors.
The Norwich Cadets (1-3) claimed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before St. Mary's racked up five runs in the top of the second inning, scoring on five hits and one error. After Norwich closed the gap to 5-2 with a run in the second, the Seahawks tacked on four more in the third inning on three hits and two errors.
The Cadets made it 9-3 in the fourth before Napier scored St. Mary's 10th run of the game on a throwing error by Norwich's second baseman. The Seahawks sealed the win with three scores in the eighth as junior leftfielder Brian Ott's (Columbia, Md./Hammond) hit by pitch; first-year catcher Danny Stouffer's (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) fielder's choice; and junior right fielder Eric Skrzyniarz's (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) single all drove in runs.
Stouffer finished the contest with four RBI and connected on a pair of singles while Dioguardo increased his stolen bases total to a team-best eight with three additional steals against Norwich today.
Senior RHP E.J. Nadolny (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) was credited with the win as Nadolny give up just one run on three hits in 2.0 innings pitched.
St. Mary's will return to action on tomorrow as the Seahawks once again face Bridgewater State College. On Monday, St. Mary's dropped a 12-3 decision to Bridgewater State. Tomorrow's action starts at 10:00 am.
