St. Mary's Women's Tennis Falls at No. 27 Mary Washington

Fredericksburg, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team suffered their first Capital Athletic Conference loss of the season, dropping a 9-0 decision to No. 27 University of Mary Washington Thursday night. The loss snapped the Seahawks' nine-match win streak.

Mary Washington (12-3, 3-0 CAC), who is ranked sixth in the Atlantic South region, retained its hold on first place in the CAC standings. The Seahawks (12-8, 3-1 CAC) remain in second place heading into Saturday's final regular-season conference match of the season at Salisbury University.

Seahawk highlights from the match include sophomore Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) taking three games from junior Lindsay Raulston (Franklin, Va.) at No. 1 singles. Raulston, who is ranked second in the region, claimed the match, 6-2, 6-1.

The next highlight came from fellow sophomore Lauren Rost (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville). Rost captured the first game, 6-4, against senior Cassie Bowman (Mountain Top, Pa.) at No. 3 singles before Bowman rallied with 6-0 and 10-0 wins in the final two games for the three-set win.

St. Mary's will be back in action this Saturday, April 13 when the Seahawks travel to the Eastern Shore to face Salisbury, who is ranked seventh in the region, in a Capital Athletic Conference match at 2:30 pm.
