Seahawk Women's Tennis Drops One at Salisbury

Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team picked up their second loss in a row Saturday afternoon, falling at Salisbury University, 9-0, in Capital Athletic Conference action.

With the win, Salisbury (17-2, 4-1 CAC), who is ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region, secured the second seed in the upcoming CAC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament while the Seahawks (12-9, 3-2 CAC) finish third in the CAC standings. St. Mary's will host sixth-seeded Wesley College in the first round of playoffs on Sunday, April 21.

The highlight of the match featured sophomore Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) toughing it out at No. 1 singles against first-year Natalie Savage (Port Murray, N.J.), falling in the opening set 6-2. Ramsey battled back in the second set to take four games before succumbing to a 6-4 setback.

The Seahawks will have two matches to tune up for their playoff run as St. Mary's returns to the courts tomorrow, traveling to Owings Mills, Maryland to take on the Mustangs of Stevenson University in non-conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm. St. Mary's will then travel to Washington College on Wednesday, April 17 for its last non-conference match of the season at 3:00 pm.
