St. Mary's Women's Tennis Season Comes to a Close

Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team wrapped up their 2012-13 campaign Tuesday afternoon as the third-seeded Seahawks dropped a 9-0 decision to second-seeded and regionally-ranked Salisbury University in the semifinals of the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament.

St. Mary's finished out the year with a 13-11 (3-2 CAC) overall record as the Seahawks made their sixth consecutive semifinal appearance. Salisbury (20-2), who is ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region, will now face top-seeded University of Mary Washington in the championship match on Saturday, April 27.

The highlight of the match for the Seahawks was a three-set match played by senior captain Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial). Bradcovich claimed the first set by a 6-2 margin before sophomore Allison Lutz (Salisbury, Md.) responded with a 6-2 win in the second.

The two players battled in the third-set tiebreaker but Lutz ended up pulling out an 11-9 triumph in the third set for the match victory.

Sophomore Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and first-year Emily Rost (Germantown, Md.) each completed the season with a team-best 13 singles wins while sophomore Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and first-year Anna Passaniti (White Hall, Md./Hereford) each tallied 11 singles victories.

In doubles action, Bradcovich and Passaniti led the field with a team-high 15 doubles wins as the duo posted a 15-5 record for the season.
