St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and never looked back in posting an 8-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Frostburg State University Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
With today's win, the Seahawks improve to 11-7 on the season and remain undefeated in conference action with a 2-0 record.
After capturing all three doubles matches for a 3-0 advantage, sophomores Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) sealed the deal for St. Mary's with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Stumpfig needed three sets to get past sophomore Megan Crowl (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) and extend her win streak to seven straight.
Junior Amber Beckman (Hyndman, Pa./Allegany) tallied Frostburg's (3-8, 1-3 CAC) lone point with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) triumph over sophomore Lauren Rost (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) at No. 3 singles.
First-year Emily Rost (Germantown, Md.) picked up her 10th singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over first-year Kayla Kirk (Westernport, Md./Mountain Ridge) at No. 6 singles.
Senior captain Marie Rau (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) maintained her singles record perfect at 7-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over first-year Rachel Ober (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) at No. 5 singles, wrapping up the match's final point.
Senior captain Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and first-year Anna Passaniti (White Hall, Md./Hereford) continued their solid doubles play by tallying their team-leading 13th win of the season, and seventh in a row, with an 8-5 triumph over Kirk and first-year Kaitlin Lemmert (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge) at No. 3 doubles.
St. Mary's will be back in action tomorrow when the Seahawks travel to York College of Pennsylvania for a Capital Athletic Conference match at 1:00 pm.
