Buena Vista, Va. – The No. 21 St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team had no difficulty with Southern Virginia University, posting their second straight 35-plus point victory with an 84-49 win Saturday afternoon.

Senior captain Donn Hill (Aberdeen, Md./Bel Air) paced the Seahawks with a game-best 14 points, two rebounds and two steals while sophomore forward Troy Spurrier (Mt. Senior captain Brendan McFall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) rounded out the scoring with 10 points and a game-high seven caroms.

The Seahawks (10-3) did all their damage in the first half as St. Mary's shot nearly 60% (16-of-27) from the floor en route to a 48-18 halftime advantage. Southern Virginia struggled to get any offense going in the first 20 minutes, making only six baskets in 22 attempts and committing 15 turnovers which led to 23 points for St. Mary's.

Junior captain Nicholas LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) and Spurrier each notched nine first-half points while LaGuerre and senior guard Christopher Hutchinson (Baltimore, Md./New Town) each hauled in three rebounds to lead the Seahawks at halftime. Junior forward Wesley Evans (Crystal Lake, Ill.) was the top scorer for Southern Virginia in the first half with seven points.

It was a closer game in the second half as St. Mary's outscored the Knights by a 36-31 over the final 20 minutes. The Seahawks kept their edge as the bench out-dueled Southern Virginia's reserves, 31-14, in the game. First-year forward Pat Ryan (Arlington, Va./Mercersburg Academy [Pa.]) paced the reserves with a season-high nine points while Hutchinson finished the day with seven off the bench.

Junior guard Preston Eaton (Mapleton, Utah) paced Southern Virginia with 12 points and seven rebounds, picking up all his points and five boards in the second half. Evans added four more for a final total of 11 points on the day.

St. Mary's will look to extend its five-game win streak on Wednesday, January 15th as St. Mary's travels to York College of Pennsylvania (2-11, 1-5 CAC) for a Capital Athletic Conference game at 8:00 p.m.
