St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team hosted fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins University in their first dual meet of 2014 on Friday. Johns Hopkins (4-1) went on to post a 172-66 non-conference win over the Seahawks (6-5) in today's long-course (50m) meet.
The Blue Jays captured the first 11 events before going exhibition in the 200 individual medley and the 200 freestyle relay.
Junior captain Brooke Raab (Parkton, Md./Hereford) notched St. Mary's highest finish of the day with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly.
The foursome of juniors Hannah Hafey (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and Eva Shpak (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson), sophomore Cara Machlin (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson), and junior Kelsey Abernathy (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) placed fourth in the 200 medley relay in 2:17.51.
Sophomore Zoe McIlmail (Frederick, Md./Urbana) claimed a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:20.58 while Hafey placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke in 34.93.
Senior captain Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) paced the Seahawks in the 50 breaststroke with a fourth-place finish while Hafey went fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.82.
Senior captain Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) tallied a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:26.24 while McIlmail earned her second fourth-place finish in the 400 freestyle in 4:59.80.
D'Ambrosio picked up a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 30.74 while Raab took fifth in the 100 freestyle in 1:07.61 and Abernathy was fifth in the 50 butterfly in 33.41.
St. Mary's will be back in action tomorrow when the Seahawks return to Capital Athletic Conference action at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
