Box Score Arlington, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team continued Capital Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Marymount (Va.) University. The Seahawks remain winless on the young season as they dropped a 57-37 decision to Marymount.
St. Mary's (0-5, 0-2 CAC) effort today was highlighted by a season-best 11 blocks as sophomore center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) picked up a career-high six blocks.
Although the Seahawk defense was solid in keeping Marymount to 57 points (the Saints' third-lowest point total of the season), St. Mary's struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting only 28% (14-of-50) from the floor for the game.
Along with six blocks, Haller was the only Seahawk to score in double figures as she tallied 13 points off the bench. She also led the team on the glass with eight rebounds.
St. Mary's opened up with an early 3-0 lead as first-year guard Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James School) grabbed her own and then knocked down a three-pointer at 18:54. The Saints answered with a 6-0 run for a three-point lead at 14:39.
Sophomore guard Haley Riebling (Ellicott City, Md./Seton Keough) connected on a long-range shot of her own and Haller made the back end of two free throws to return a one-point lead to the Seahawks at 13:01. Marymount then used a 20-6 run over a nine-minute span to stake a 26-13 advantage at 4:08 following a three by senior guard Dominique Dickens (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood).
The Seahawks closed out the half by outscoring Marymount 5-0 and headed into halftime with a 26-18 deficit as Haller scored four of the team's points in the run.
Haller contributed seven first half points to lead St. Mary's while Kline collected five points and five boards. The Saints were led at intermission by Dickens' seven points while junior guard Kievanna Lacey (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) hauled in seven caroms.
Marymount (6-1, 3-0 CAC) shot nearly 41% (13-of-32) in the second half and owned a double-digit lead for the final 13 minutes of the game, outscoring the Seahawks 19 to 9 en route to the 20-point win.
Sophomore Kiki Laux (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) led all Saint scorers with 13 points while Lacey finished with a near triple-double on 11 points, 11 rebounds, and eight steals.
