St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team's rally fell short Wednesday night as the Seahawks dropped a 67-61 decision to No. 12 University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The two teams found themselves in a 47-47 dead-heat following a layup by senior guard Christopher Hutchinson with 8:14 left in the game. Mary Washington (18-2, 11-1 CAC) built up an eight-point lead at 3:47 as senior guard Dajon Daniel (Fredericksburg, Va./Mountain View) connected on a layup to cap the 11-3 Eagle run.

Junior captain Nicholas LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) then knocked down five consecutive points to cut the Seahawk deficit to 58-55 at 2:32. Back-to-back layups by senior guards Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va./Monacan) and Dom Morra (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) put UMW back up by seven at 1:38. LaGuerre struck again with another three-pointer 21 seconds later to make it a four-point game.

Riester made both free throws with one minute on the clock before senior forward Brendan McFall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) stroked a three-point shot with 40 seconds to go. Following a Seahawk timeout, UMW worked the clock down to 12 seconds on the game clock and seven on the shot clock before calling a timeout of its own.

Out of the timeout, senior forward Dylan Farinet (Westmoreland, Va./Colonial Beach) then drained his third three-pointer of the night to seal the Eagle win with 5.6 seconds on the clock.

Senior guard Donn Hill (Aberdeen, Md./Bel Air) paced the Seahawks (14-6, 8-4 CAC) in the loss with 15 points and four rebounds while LaGuerre finished with a dozen points, including 10 second half points, five boards, and two assists.

The first half featured 10 lead changes and two tied scores as Mary Washington edged the Seahawks for a 30-29 halftime advantage. McFall was fouled on his three-point attempt with 10 seconds left in the half and made all three free throws to send St. Mary's into the locker room with just a one-point deficit.

Riester finished with a game-high 26 points, including 18 first-half points on 4-of-6 from downtown, while Daniel chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
