St. Mary's Men's Lacrosse Makes It Two in a Row

Box Score

Buena Vista, Va. – Fifteen Seahawks found the back of the net Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team routed their host and Capital Athletic Conference newcomer, Southern Virginia University, by a score of 25-4.

Senior attackmen Maximilian Reamer (Baltimore, Md./Friends) and Ben Love (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) led the scoring onslaught with four goals apiece, marking a career outing for Reamer. Sophomore midfielder Stewart Utter (Deephaven, Minn./Minnetonka) also had a career day with two goals and two assists.

The Seahawks (5-5) opened up the game with a 4-0 run in the first quarter. St. Mary's exploded for nine goals in the second period for a 13-2 halftime lead. Love and Reamer (3 goals) combined for seven of the team's 13 first half goals while senior attackman Stew D'Ambrogi (Severna Park, Md./Severn) and sophomore midfielder Nicholas Wilkinson (Huntingtown, Md./Calverton) each had two assists.

First-year midfielder Nash Wilkey (Highland, Utah) paced Southern Virginia (0-11) with two goals while sophomore midfielder Mike Bangerter (Highland, Utah) had a goal and an assist.

St. Mary's scored the first two goals of the third stanza before sophomore midfielder Joshua Neilson (Turlock, Calif.) and Wilkey tallied back-to-back goals for a 15-4 SMCM lead at 8:39. It was all Seahawks after that as they netted the final four goals of the third and then shutout Southern Virginia for the second time with a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks dominated at the X, winning 22-of-33 face-offs. Sophomore Teddy Secor (California, Md./Calverton) led the way with a 9-of-12 effort while junior Reese Cassard (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) went 7-of-8 and added his first career assist.

St. Mary's outshot the Knights by a 70-19 margin while outhustling the hosts to ground balls, 26-8. The Seahawk defensive unit killed all five Southern Virginia extra-man opportunities.

Senior Zack Blewett (Darnestown, Md./Heights) and sophomore Joey Casey (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) each made a save as each goalie played 30 minutes apiece. Senior Tyler Cox (Forest, Miss.) came up with 13 stops as the Knights remain winless on the season.

The Seahawks look to extend their win streak to three on Wednesday, April 2nd as St. Mary's welcomes No. 15 University of Mary Washington to Seahawk Stadium for a key conference matchup at 4:00 p.m.
