No. 16 York (Pa.) Outlasts Seahawk Men's Lacrosse

York, Pa. Senior attackman Ben Love (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) notched a game-best six points but a slow start by the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team Wednesday afternoon led them to an 18-11 setback at the hands of No. 16 York College of Pennsylvania.

Love tallied three goals and a career-best three assists while senior attackman Stew D'Ambrogi (Severna Park, Md./Severn) added a season-best four points on two goals and two assists. Junior attackman Eric Simon (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) matched his season-high of three points on two goals and an assist.

York (13-3, 5-1 CAC) outscored the Seahawks (7-8, 3-3 CAC), 9-2, in the first half as the Spartans posted a 5-1 lead after the first period. Four different players found the back of the net for York, including a natural hat trick from junior attackman Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md.) in just over three minutes.

First-year midfielder Greg Louzan (Ellicott City, Md./St. Paul's) and sophomore attackman Conor Jordan (Rockville, Md./Rockville) each scored for St. Mary's in the first half.

Sophomore attackman Andrew Gamble (Easton, Md.) led the Spartans with game-highs of five goals and six points while Hutson finished with his first half hat trick and two assists. Senior midfielders Seth Krolus (Westminster, Md.) and James Lowe (Monrovia, Md.) and junior attackman Tyler Davis (Finksburg, Md.) each contributed four points to York's sixth consecutive win.

Love tallied his first goal of the day to start off the third stanza before YCP rattled off three straight for a 12-3 advantage at 6:38. The Seahawks then notched the final three goals of the third period to close the gap to six as D'Ambrogi led the 3-0 run with two goals while Love had a goal and an assist. The two teams combined for 11 goals in the fourth quarter as the Spartans edged St. Mary's by a 6-5 margin.

Midfielders Teddy Secor (California, Md./Calverton) and Cody Tidwell (Cordova, Md./South River) combined for a 21-of-33 effort at the X. Secor went 11-of-20 with a game- and career-best nine ground balls while Tidwell was 10-of-13 with eight loose ball pickups.

St. Mary's outhustled the Spartans, 43-37, in ground balls while York edged the Seahawks, 32-30, in shots. Senior Zack Blewett (Darnestown, Md./Heights) picked up 11 saves, including five in the second quarter, and five ground balls while sophomore Caleb Abney (Forest Hill, Md.) made nine stops in 53 minutes.

The Seahawks will fight for a home first-round playoff game when St. Mary's travels to western Maryland to take on Frostburg State University in a key conference matchup at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's winner will be the fourth seed in the 2014 CAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
