St. Mary's Women's Tennis Shuts Out Hood

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team dropped only 12 games in picking up a 9-0 blanking of former Capital Athletic Conference foe, Hood College, on Friday evening.

Before the match even began, Hood (2-6) owned a 2-0 deficit as the Blazers were short a player and defaulted No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

The Seahawks (2-5) lost only two games in two doubles matches as junior captain Lauren Rost (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) and sophomore Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) snapped a two-match skid with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Emily Rost (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) collected her team-leading sixth singles win of the season with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.

The other Seahawks contributing to today's win were juniors Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson). Ramsey earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles while Stumpfig tallied a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at two singles.

St. Mary's will be back on the courts tomorrow as the Seahawks travel to Buena Vista, Virginia to face conference newcomer, Southern Virginia University, in a match at 11:30 a.m. This match was rescheduled from Saturday, March 29th due to rain.
