Buena Vista, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team stretched their win streak to three Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 win over the host Southern Virginia University Knights.

St. Mary's (3-5) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after claiming victories in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Knights' tandem of first-years Lauren Morrison (Encinitas, Calif.) and Micah Roberts (Canby, Ore.) notched an 8-5 win in two doubles to cut the deficit in half heading into singles action.

Junior captain Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) blanked sophomore Kirsten Laurence (Bountiful, Utah) in straight sets at No. 1 singles as Ramsey stretched her win streak to three and gave the Seahawks a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Emily Rost's (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) third consecutive singles win was a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 singles, putting her team up 4-1.

Junior captain Lauren Rost (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) picked up the decisive fifth point for the team match win with her 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Roberts. The win was L. Rost's third singles win in a row as well.

Morrison was a multiple winner for Southern Virginia as she picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 win to outlast junior Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) at No. 2 singles.

First-year Anna Evans (Provo, Utah) notched a singles win as well for the Knights (6-11), tallying a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 singles over sophomore Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown).

Sophomore Kayla Baier (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Prep) collected a team-best eighth singles win with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles over first-year Kari Stollenwerk (Hales Corner, Wis.).

St. Mary's will be back on the courts tomorrow as the Seahawks welcome Capital Athletic Conference newcomer, Penn State Harrisburg, to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a CAC match at 1:00 p.m.
