Box Score

Middletown, Pa. – Sophomore center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) made two free throws Saturday afternoon with eight seconds to go in overtime to lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball to a 67-64 Capital Athletic Conference road win at Penn State Harrisburg.

The Seahawks (5-12, 5-7 CAC) outscored Penn State Harrisburg (4-15, 3-9 CAC) by a 9-6 margin in the extra period, posting a 9-of-12 effort at the charity stripe. Harrisburg opened up OT with a 60-59 lead but it was all St. Mary's after that, using a 7-2 run for a five-point advantage at 1:19 as the team was 7-of-8 at the line.

St. Mary's currently remains in a two-way tie for sixth place with York College of Pennsylvania (9-10, 5-7 CAC) in the league standings. The Seahawks, who snapped a three-game skid with today's win, will take a break from CAC play with a non-conference matchup against McDaniel College at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 2nd at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.

First-year guard Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James School) led the Seahawk offense with game-best 19 points while Haller finished the afternoon with her fifth double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. First-year guard Olivia Nowlin (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) added 10 points, season-best five boards, and five assists.

The Seahawks trailed only once in the first half as Harrisburg put together a 9-3 run to claim its only lead of the first 20 minutes, 16-15 at 10:08 on a layup by junior forward Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y./Milton Hershey). St. Mary's responded with a 17-5 run to post a solid 32-21 lead at 2:55 as the run was bookended with a pair of three-pointers.

St. Mary's staked a 33-28 halftime advantage as Kline and Nowlin each tallied eight points in the first half. Junior guard Jasmine Yanich (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) paced the Lions with eight points as well. Carter's five caroms helped Harrisburg to a 20-13 rebounding margin in the first half.

The Lions outscored St. Mary's 30-25 in the second half, erasing a seven-point deficit with a 22-10 run to garner a 50-45 lead at 8:11 on a jumper by sophomore forward Kaitlyn Carmo (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area). The Seahawks turned around a six-point setback with an 8-0 run in a three-minute span to regain a 58-56 lead at 1:54.

Carter made the front end of two shots to cut the lead to one with 15 seconds to go in regulation. St. Mary's was fouled with 10 ticks on the clock but missed the front end and first-year forward Janel Brown (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) grabbed the board. The Lions attempted two shots, missing both but Carter was fouled on the rebound. She made the front end but missed the second to force OT.
