Seahawk Men's Lacrosse Takes on No. 17 Salisbury

Huntingtown, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team played just their third game of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 17-6 to defending Capital Athletic Conference champion, Salisbury University.

Senior captain Matt Tarrant (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) paced St. Mary's (0-3, 0-1 CAC) in its third straight loss with a goal and two assists while fellow classmate Eric Simon (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard) added a goal and a helper.

Salisbury (4-3, 1-0 CAC) staked an 11-0 advantage at halftime behind a seven-goal second quarter. Senior attackman Kyle Goss (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) lead all scorers with four goals and an assist in the first half.

The Sea Gulls stretched their run to 13-0 with a pair of goals in 22 seconds to start the third period. Junior attackman Conor Jordan (Rockville, Md./Rockville) stopped the bleeding with his fourth tally of the season at 12:50. The teams alternated the next four goals and Salisbury edged the Seahawks, 4-3, in the third.

First-year attackman Troy Miller (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) notched the first two of the last quarter for a 17-3 Salisbury lead at 9:43. Tarrant tallied a goal and an assist as the Seahawks ended the game on a 3-0 run with Simon and first-year attackman Colin Dempsey (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin) also scoring in the run.

Salisbury outshot the Seahawks, 52-27, while owning a 42-20 margin in ground balls. The Sea Gulls dominated the X, winning 22 of 27 face-offs. Goss finished with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead SU while five goalies combined for 11 saves in the team's second win in a row.

Junior Joe Casey (Annapolis, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) registered seven saves for St. Mary's in the first half while sophomore Max Alderman (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) picked up eight stops in the final 30 minutes.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday, March 18th as St. Mary's faces No. 19 Denison University on Johns Hopkins University's Homewood Field in Baltimore. The first face-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
