Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team picked up their second consecutive victory on St. Patrick's Day. The Seahawks' second straight 9-0 shutout win was a blanking of Albright College (5-2) in their final match of the PTR Spring TennisFest down in South Carolina. St. Mary's improved to 5-2 on the season and finished its Spring Break trip with a 2-1 record.
Junior Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and first-year Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) opened up the winning with an 8-0 win over senior Christina Peacock (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) and junior Erin Sullivan (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) at No. 2 doubles.
Junior captain Lauren Rost (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) and first-year Chelsea English (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) followed with another 8-0 victory over first-year Amanda Camporeale (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and senior Melissa Carberry (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) at No. 3 doubles.
Seniors Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) outlasted sophomore Brooke Rooney (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) and senior Alyssa Sell (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) for an 8-6 triumph at No. 1 doubles to complete the doubles sweep.
For the second straight match, the Seahawks (5-2) used straight-set victories to win all six singles matches against Albright. Barall won her fifth consecutive singles match to improve to 9-1 on the season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Sell at No. 2 singles.
St. Mary's will return to action this Saturday, March 21st as the Seahawks return to Capital Athletic Conference play at York College of Pennsylvania. The match begins at 11:00 a.m.
