Chestertown, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team saw their six-match win streak halted Friday afternoon with a 5-1 loss at Washington College in a non-conference match played to decision inside the Johnson Fitness Center.
Washington College (9-0) dropped only two games in sweeping doubles action, posting an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles followed by an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. An 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles wrapped up the sweep.
The Shorewomen then picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles before first-year Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) tallied St. Mary's (9-3) lone point with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 2 singles over junior Marielle McIntyre (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom). This is Barall's 10th consecutive win and moves her to 14-1 on the season, including 12-0 in dual matches.
Washington College capped the win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles.
St. Mary's will be back on the courts on Wednesday, April 8th when the Seahawks travel to Newport News, Virginia, returning to Capital Athletic Conference action against Christopher Newport University at 4:00 p.m.
