Box Score Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team battled Salisbury University Saturday afternoon, posting one of their best shooting performances in their last five games. However, Salisbury (8-3, 4-0 CAC), who is receiving votes in the national polls, snaps two-game skid with a 77-49 Capital Athletic Conference win over the Seahawks (3-7, 1-3 CAC).
Junior center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was the only St. Mary's player to break double digits as Haller finished with a dozen. Sophomore guard Olivia Nowlin (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) and first-year forward Kobe Chaney (Annapolis, Md./South River) chipped in eight points each while Haller grabbed team-bests of six rebounds and three blocks.
St. Mary's played two solid quarters against the Sea Gulls. Salisbury staked a 16-11 lead after one quarter of play but only after turning around an 11-8 deficit in the final two minutes. The Sea Gulls went on to gain a 33-18 halftime advantage following a 17-7 run in the second period.
The third quarter was the Seahawks best one as they shot nearly 47%, including a perfect 2-of-2 from downtown. Haller led the way with four points while guards Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James) and Katie Robey (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Visitation Prep) each notched three points apiece.
Salisbury finished a 50-31 edge in rebounding as junior guard Lauren Rothfeld (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) hauled in a game-high 12 boards. Sophomore forward Josephine Noonan (Ferndale, Pa./Palisades) led the Sea Gulls in scoring with 19 points and added eight caroms while senior forward Julia McLaughlin (Monkton, Md./Hereford) contributed 13 points and six rebounds.
St. Mary's will step out of conference play on Monday, January 4th as the team travels to Westminster, Maryland to face McDaniel College (7-2) at 7:00 p.m.
