St. Mary's City, Md. – Sophomore guard Delaszo Smith (Baltimore, Md./Annapolis) notched his third consecutive 20-point game Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team dropped a 71-65 decision to Frostburg State University in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Smith finished the afternoon with a game-high 21 points as he shot 4-of-8 from downtown and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Hurley picked up 14 points and a career- and game-high 14 rebounds.

St. Mary's (7-6, 3-3 CAC) biggest lead of the game came at 12:03 of the first half on an old-fashioned three-point play by Smith, capping a 12-2 run for a 16-9 advantage. Three key triples by first-year forward James Foley (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Area Christian), Smith, and junior forward Pat Ryan (Arlington, Va./Mercersburg Academy (Pa.)) deflated an FSU run, keeping SMCM on top 26-21 at 6:00.

A Hurley dunk off of a behind-the-back pass from senior guard Garrett Snoops (Millersville, Md./Spalding) accented the Seahawks' final lead of the half, 30-29, at 2:04. Back-to-back three-pointers returned the lead to Frostburg State for good with 22 seconds on the clock. FSU headed into the locker room with a 35-34 advantage after Hurley made a layup with five ticks.

Sophomore Tyler Michael (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) led all scorers with 12 points while senior forward Shawn Henson (Baltimore, Md./Polytech) grabbed seven rebounds for the Bobcats. Smith paced St. Mary's with 11 while Hurley tallied eight points and seven boards. The Seahawks shot 41.9-percent from the field, including 4-of-9 from downtown, and posted a 22-19 rebounding margin.

Frostburg stretched its lead to 39-34 at the start of the second half on a triple by Henson before first-year guard Danny Canary (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) capped off a 6-0 run for St. Mary's final lead of the game, 40-39, at 14:11. From there, the Bobcats took over and built an 18-point lead at 5:17 off a 27-8 run over a nine-minute span.

The Seahawks rallied and closed the gap to five at 1:07 on a Smith layup and then again with nine seconds left on a Canary triple.

Senior guard Nick Smoot (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) paced the Bobcats in their first win over St. Mary's since 2012 with 17 points while senior James Peters (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) finished with 16. Henson left the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena with a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards.

St. Mary's will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, January 13th when the Seahawks welcome York College of Pennsylvania (6-7, 2-4 CAC) to campus for a conference tilt at 8:00 p.m.
