Ashland, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team fell to Randolph-Macon College (1-2) on the road in non-conference action Friday evening. The Seahawks would be led by senior captain Lizzie Straathof (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) who earned two of the three gold medals for St. Mary's (0-2).

How It Happened
- The Seahawks would walk away with three gold medals to conclude the dual meet.
- Straathof would earn nine points in the 50 freestyle, clocking in a time of 25.99 to win the event. She would also take gold in the 100 freestyle, leading the pack with a time of 56:55.
- Straathof would also contribute in the 200 freestyle relay, anchoring St. Mary's second-place performance of 1:46.51 with teammates sophomore Rachel Yates (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island), sophomore Samantha Schoenecker (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson), and sophomore Hailley Baughman (Lineboro, Md./Manchester Valley).
- Baughman would earn the final gold for the Seahawks in the 200 breaststroke, coming in with a time of 2:36.71.
- Sophomore Elizabeth Valenti (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) would pick up three silver medals in the meet. Valenti would earn the second-place spot in the 1,000 freestyle (11:31.61), the 200 individual medley (2:23.23), and the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:36.57.
- The foursome of first-year Angela Ross (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall), Baughman, first-year Carolyn Sutton (Laurel, Md./Laurel), and Yates claimed a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:58.93.
- Rachel and Becca Sonnenberg (Derwood, Md./Magruder) paced the Seahawks in the 200 butterfly with third- and fourth-place finishes in 2:24.41 and 2:36.05, respectively.
- Another bronze medal came in the 200 backstroke as Sutton finished third in 2:21.87 followed by Ross in fourth (2:22.96).
- R. Sonnenberg led her team in the 200 freestyle with a fourth-place finish in 2:11.99.
Up Next for the Seahawks
- The Seahawks will host York College of Pennsylvania (2-0, 1-0 CAC) tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center. Tomorrow's dual meet will be St. Mary's second Capital Athletic Conference meet of the season.
