St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team faced another tough opponent Sunday afternoon, falling 8-1 to Washington College.

St. Mary's (1-3) dropped all three doubles matches as Washington College (1-3) grabbed a 3-0 lead heading into singles action. Senior Nick Ersoy (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) and sophomore Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel) played the closest doubles match fighting the Shoremen tandem of sophomore John Niswander (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and first-year Garrett Boleslav (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) to an 8-6 decision.

Washington College won five straight matches for an 8-0 advantage before Ersoy improved his dual-match record to 3-1 with a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles, helping the Seahawks avoid the shutout. Ersoy tallied a 6-3, 7-5 win over Niswander.

Senior captain Mark Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Westminster) battled at No. 1 singles but came up just short, 7-5, 6-3 for his third straight singles loss.

St. Mary's will look to snap its two-match skid when the Seahawks welcome McDaniel College to the Somerset Tennis Complex on Saturday, March 5 for a non-conference match at 2:00 p.m.
