Box Score Buena Vista, Va. – A combined 12 goals from captains Conor Jordan (Rockville, Md./Rockville) and Brendan Steele (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) not enough Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team falls 17-16 in overtime to Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference action.
Sophomore attackman Casey Rich (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) found the back of the net 1:15 into overtime, finishing off a pass from first-year midfielder Payton Kimber (Elk Ridge, Utah/Salem Hills) for the game-winning goal and his fifth of the day.
Jordan tied a school single-game record with a career- and game-best seven goals and finished with a career- and game-high nine points as he added two assists as well. Steele ended the afternoon with career-bests of five goals and six points.
The Seahawks (2-5, 0-2 CAC) owned a 16-15 lead with 1:35 left in the game behind an unassisted tally from Steele. Steele's goal capped a 3-0 St. Mary's run which turned around a 15-13 deficit. However, Rich came through for Southern Virginia once again as he netted an unassisted score as time expired to send the game into overtime.
Rich paced the Knights with eight points on five goals and three assists while first-year attackman Spencer Tunick (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) added four goals and a helper. Three other Southern Virginia players contributed two goals each, including Kimber who chipped in two and one.

St. Mary's outshot the hosts, 14-6, and won the third, 6-2, to reclaim a 12-11 advantage heading into the fourth.
Senior defenseman Phil Cappello (Woburn, Mass./Austin Prep) was a new face for the Seahawks on face-offs today and Cappello won 14-of-25 face-offs, picking up three ground balls, but Southern Virginia posted a 19-of-39 win percentage at the X for the game. St. Mary's outshot the Knights for the game, 44-40, and outhustled Southern Virginia on ground balls, 50-37, as Jordan and senior midfielder Austin Toland (Cockeysville, Md./St. Paul's School) each had five.
