St. Mary's Women's Tennis Downed by No. 33 Christopher Newport

Newport News, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team went head-to-head against Capital Athletic Conference competitor, No. 33 Christopher Newport University. St. Mary's dropped a 6-0 decision to the Captains on the road Sunday afternoon.

Rolling into the doubles matches, the Captains (10-2, 4-0 CAC) took all three points to attain a 3-0 lead right off the bat. Seniors Anna Passaniti (Hereford, Md./Hereford) and Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) had the closest match with CNU's sophomores Emily Morgan (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and Alexandra Drye (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury), falling 8-2 as the duo was the only one to take games from the Captains.

As the play advanced into singles action, the Seahawks (4-6, 1-1 CAC) were again thwarted in all attempts at gaining a point against Christopher Newport. CNU took all three points as the Seahawks tried to battle back from the 3-0 deficit. Passaniti again had the closest match for St. Mary's, suffering a 6-0, 6-2 setback at the hands of junior Katie Carlson (Omaha, Neb./Duchesne Academy Sacred Heart) in the No. 1 singles match.

The Seahawks will return to conference play on Friday, April 1 as they welcome Penn State Harrisburg to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a match at 3:30 p.m.
