St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team took to the courts Sunday afternoon against the Stevenson University Mustangs in their final regular-season match and honored their five seniors on Senior Day.

The Seahawks (8-8) took to the court with intent, taking all three doubles matches with one match won by default as Stevenson (0-9) only traveled with five players. In the No. 1 match, sophomore Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and junior Marissa Romanek (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) posted a dominating 8-0 shutout of senior Ashlyn Hawbaker (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) and sophomore Colleen Martin (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air). The Seahawks advanced to singles play with a 3-0 lead.

As singles play began, it again was all Seahawks. They started with a 4-0 lead following Stevenson's default of No. 6 singles. St. Mary's then won four straight matches at No. 3, No. 2, No. 1, and No. 4 singles. Senior Anna Passaniti (Hereford, Md./Hereford) picked up her first win of the season with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over junior Ty-Chelle Williams (Hyattsville, Md./Central) at No. 1 singles.

In the No. 2 singles match, senior captain Emily Rost (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) posted the most convincing of scores, winning 6-1, 6-0. The Mustangs were able to grab a point from the Seahawks as sophomore Jennifer Garcia (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) defeated senior captain Kayla Baier (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Prep), 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.

The Seahawks gained the fourth seed in the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament and will host fifth-seeded York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 16 at the Somerset Tennis Complex.
